Summer of Hope - Supporting Women in Leadership Roles

Mary Sumner House - 02 Jun 2022

Caritas Kanyamuneza: An agent of change in her community

Caritas became an agent of change in her community when she took on the role of a volunteer in Mothers' Union's literacy program in Burundi after becoming literate herself. She received training in literacy, saving group formation, business skills and parenting. Today, she supports many to realize their potential.

She is also trained and serves as a catechist in her Church; one of the very few women in her community who have achieved this.

Caritas is an inspiration to women and men alike. She not only improved her own life, but others' too. She continues to serve her community as a female leader. Her example sheds light on the power of women in leadership positions.

Dr. Jeninah Mwesigye: Breaking generational bias through access to education
Dr. Jeninah Mwesigye is the President of the diocese of Ankole, Uganda. In her conversation with Mothers' Union, she shared how she was inspired by her mother who didn't have access to education but wanted her daughters to be educated and take on leadership roles.

During the first COVID lockdown, she attended an online course by Girls for Girls (G4G) which aimed at helping young women develop the courage, vision, and skills to take on public leadership. It was very helpful in offering mentorship and bringing together insights from established leaders and a global network.

She encourages all women to take up leadership courses to build their ability, communication skills, trust and confidence, along with praying to God to show them their calling.

Mothers' Union plays an instrumental role in supporting women like Caritas and Dr. Jeninah in their individual journeys to realize their full potential and make a difference in their communities, who in turn empower other women to follow the same path. You can support this journey of transformation by organizing a fun Summer of Hope event, or donating to our appeal directly on our website!
